My whole family just love it!! Instead of using jar of dried beef I just employ 8oz. sparse slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and it a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and yous don't even accept to rinse!! You must try information technology and believe me, you lot won't be disappointed!!!!

But like moms, minus the pepper and her beefiness came out of a bag. TIP: If you find this dish too salty, soak the beef in cold h2o for about x minutes, and drain. Attempt a piece, if its however too salty, soak in fresh water for 10 more minutes.

Comfort Nutrient! One time I got the roux down (it took 2 tries), information technology was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned salt and cracked black pepper. We used the Budding Dejeuner Meat. Served information technology on toasted potato breadstuff buns. I bet it would be great on biscuts! The boys scarfed them downward faster than I could serve them. I was surprised at how easy this recipe was. At commencement i was concerned that in that location was too much beef for the recipe simply it turned out perfect! It is rare to find a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would like a little more than flavour simply i dont know what else to add together. I love the cayenne merely i experience like in that location could exist another spice that i am not thinking of. Anyway it was great and i would definitely recommend this recipe but as it is!

I figured out that I have to most double the sauce recipe. I still only use one jar of stale beefiness, but with more sauce, it's not equally salty. Though it is definitely something that you lot can make speedily for everyone to eat. Nosotros make all the time.

This recipe is G-R-E-A-T!!! If yours turned out too salty, you probably used the jarred stale beefiness and should have RINSED it starting time. We used fresh dried beef from our local locker. Even my EXTREMELY picky xiii year sometime daughter and 5 year erstwhile son LOVE this stuff...and ask for it on a regular basis!

My husband loved it, my 12 year old son alleged it his "favorite meal", and we all wished I'd made more than. The funny thing is-after reading the reviews, I boiled the jarred dried beef a minute, then rinsed it off...then we all had to ADD salt (and pepper) to our portion...Go Figure!

I have been making Chipped Beefiness for years and I learned from watching my mother. I don't employ a written recipe but I apply the stale beef in the jar. I cut the beef into small pieces and saute information technology in the butter a few minutes so that the beef flavour escapes into the butter and then I add together the flour and milk. You tin also add a small amount of beefiness bullion granules. This recipe is fifty-fifty better if y'all make it the twenty-four hours before you lot plan to eat it! Great condolement food!

My mom always made this when I was a picayune girl and I've fabricated it for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more than flavour than butter). I melt that and and so stir in my beef. My favorite is to get it from a deli just that is usually not possible so buddig beefiness in the packages is the side by side best matter. I mix that with the parkay until lightly brown. I cascade the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add the flour and shake. I pour this mixture over height of the beefiness and butter and melt until heated and slightly thick. It is so much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.

This is a skilful recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used black pepper instead. But over the years I tweaked it. Melt the butter in the pan, then put shredded dried beefiness in the butter. Let it sizzle on medium heat for three-four minutes, stirring often. It will develop a amend flavor by doing that - and requite it more of a chew gene. Then add the flour, stir until 'roux' develops, add the milk and (just) pepper (no salt necessary. simmer till thickened and bubbly. You can too throw in a small can of drained babe peas (or frozen) - like a half cup; and if y'all like mushrooms, toss some (canned, tuckered) of those in also. Only seeing this listed, brought dorsum many memories of my mom, opening up that tiny jar of either Hormel or Armour Chipped Beef. A dish that she prepared several times a year. I also would rinse off the excess common salt, tastes accept changed so has the information nigh too much sodium; back when I was a piffling boy, there was non that much candy food around and the amount of common salt that was used to cure this chipped beef wasn't much of an issue--all the same today, that is not the case. S**T on a Shingle. Dad hates it as he had it every twenty-four hours in the service. Mom made it for the states. Originally it was canned or bagged chipped meat/beefiness, milk gravy and toasted white staff of life. No curry or cayenne at all. Only table salt and black pepper. And BTW, milk gravy IS fabricated with a roux, which is but a fancy French way of telling yous to cook off the butter/flour mixture to go total flavor earlier adding the milk. OK - if the beefiness isn't pond in the cream sauce, you've done it incorrect. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you've done information technology wrong. This was so unproblematic and so good. I used the Budding sliced beef and information technology was not salty at all. My husband liked it alot. I made to much so we were going to have leftovers the side by side solar day for lunch - Big mistake because this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. To raise this dish to a higher level, sweat a couple of TBSP finely chopped shallots in the butter before adding the flour for the roux. Make using half and half and plenty of freshly ground black pepper. Serve over toasted English language muffins. I e'er soak my beef in some cold water before chopping and adding to the white sauce.

Well, I started reading the reviews and found that most of them were the same. This is what nosotros used to have in the Air Strength and called it SOS but it didn't represent "Same old Stuff". It stood for "S*** on a Shingle" and nigh of united states of america asked for it by that name. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if you want to keep it classic you lot cannot add any of the other "stuff" either. I have always used the Buddig packs. If you want to effort something meliorate try using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beef. I telephone call it "Sham on a Shingle" and it is the only style that I get in now.

Spend a lilliputian extra and purchase yourself Armour Stale Beef. It makes this a great Chipped Beef Gravy. Chipped Beef gravey on toast whatever day of the week for this bunch. The cayenne pepper is a nice touch too. I quickly run warm h2o over the dried beef to remove some of the common salt. I try never to add salt equally information technology seems to break downwardly the essence of this delicious gravy.

I grew upwardly adding the beef as soon every bit the white sauce was started! Possibly thats why it never tasted salty to me or anyone else who has ate it since its soaked in the "gravy" for a petty while. I also add together lots of shredded cheese and make the sauce cheesy. Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly every bit written. I used the dried beefiness called for, not hamburger or Walmart beef. Despite the fact that the beef label merely suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beef, I did not do so because the recipe never mentioned rinsing. The issue was inedible because of the saltiness. If I endeavour this again I will definitely rinse next time. Lisa, if the beef is to be rinsed, say so in the recipe. Oh, and South.O.South. definitely does not stand for "same old stuff."

If yous would like more of the dried beef flavour, saute the dried beef with the butter to release its oils 'before' adding the flour. Makes an incredible difference and changes this 4 star into a 5 star recipe.

This is just like my Nanny used to brand. The but thing I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. Just boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add together some butter and salt and pepper and put the chipped beefiness over it. That is ever how we ate information technology growing up. I usually use the packaged beefiness also, but I usually saute information technology in the butter for a few minutes then add together the flour to the pan and stir until the butter is captivated. Add the milk and stir until thickened. It seems to give the white sauce a little more flavor.

Mmm, we love this i now, and I grew upwardly on it every bit well. Even improve is creamy egg on toast, make the aforementioned white sauce simply throw in chopped hard boiled eggs instead of the chipped beef. My 4 year old loves it! Or a tin of peas for creamed peas on toast. Any of these options are perfect for comfort food!

One of my favorite comfort foods for breakfast. I add virtually a tsp of garlic powder and onion powder and some white pepper! I besides get chipped dried beef from the cafeteria! I sometimes serve this over homefries too!

Liked the consistency of the roux, only once dried beefiness hit information technology...........it was all over. While the recipe is excellent, I quite ofttimes brand it using very lean ground beef. Dark-brown the beef in a modest pot, add the flour to the beefiness,stir, then add together the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the chore of making a roux. I then add a affect of wostershire sauce and some onion powder, garlic powder and salt/pepper to gustation.

This is a good starting signal! My mom'southward all-time friend makes this all of the time and I have fond memories of it growing upwardly:) She adds a small chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. Also Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a trivial sherry or white wine tops it off! She also e'er served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (not the sheet). My husband has been talking about the creamy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a child then I decided to make it for him. She is no longer with us and then I couldn't ask her for her recipe and I came across this 1 and thought I'd requite it a try. My husband loved it with the exception that he, like many others, thought information technology was besides salty then adjacent fourth dimension I will rinse the meat. I made this for my husband, after he had been begging for me to find a recipe for SOS. I rinsed the dried beef from the jar in warm water, but hubby said it was still very, very salty, and for him to mutter about saltiness is rare! He said the SOS the Navy served was much better! The sauce looked good, but side by side fourth dimension I would use corned beef or something else besides the jar of dried beef.

We have eaten this every Easter Sunday, for the past fifty years. Hither's our family's twist. First we make a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A overnice rich white sauce. The chipped beef is sliced & and then must exist soaked in warm water to get the saltiness out. Yup, this is my grandmother'south and my mother's recipe earlier her, although, we don't use an 8 oz jar of beef. For this much sauce, a 2.5 oz jar is more than sufficient for u.s., and helps keep it less salty overall. For the poster who was wondering was additional spice could exist added ... the secret is always nutmeg. A SMIDGE only, not more that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much like it does to Alfredo sauce. I made this tonight and served information technology over toast cubes. We've also fabricated this and served information technology over toasted stale rolls. it's as well quite good over crushed breadsticks.

I simply made this for New year's day's Day brunch. I tripled the recipe and added ane/two teaspoon garlic powder and ane/2 teaspoon stale mustard. Delish! A quick and easy recipe that my whole family enjoyed. I could not detect the stale beefiness in a jar, so I used the carl budig thin sliced pastrami tiffin meat. I cut it into strips and heated in a fry pan before adding it to the white sauce. Served over thick toasted slices of challah bread. Then good, I will have to double the recipe next time!!

I retrieve my mom making this on occasion growing up. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I also used kitchen shears to cut downward the time information technology takes to chop the beef. This was proficient but not near as proficient as I remembered information technology. Since the SODIUM is OUT OF THIS WORLD I probably won't brand it again for some other 20 years! Personally, the USMC SOS recipe was much better tasting that was made with ground beefiness.

Recently, I constitute myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early on childhood. My family of six wasn't exactly poor but we had to brand unproblematic meals stretch far and then the 'chipped beef' was Land-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English muffins, and seasoning was common salt and pepper. I substituted those same ingredients again and this recipe was all the same FANTASTIC! Tasted exactly how I remembered! Savoring it over again tonight took me dorsum over 30 yrs., when united states four kids were madly lapping it up and fighting for seconds (and thirds)! The men in the family love this but I utilize iv TB butter, 4 TB flour and 2 cups of milk and 2 pkg corned beef. I estrus the ii cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add together milk all at once to the roux so I don't have to spend forever stirring it.

As my mom did, I add ii coursely chopped, hard-cooked eggs. I also add some frozen peas to make a 'full meal' out of it, and I serve it over country buttermilk biscuits. And don't add together Whatever common salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, you lot can mix the milk & flour together first (I use cold milk, or one-half & half) in a measuring cup and add to melted butter all at one time.

DH requested I make this. I have to admit I really did not desire to only glad I did.I tasted a seize with teeth off of DH'southward plate, information technology isn't bad and really easy to brand. Only draw back is the sodium content. DH ate the whole affair and so that was half-dozen,564mg of sodium. I would accident upwards like a balloon. Great recipe only my family unit found that 8 oz of dried beef to exist overwhelming. I used one (1) ii.25 oz jar of Armour dried beef and ground mixed peppercorns in the next try. It was a success!! I also took me back to my days in the Marine Corps!!

Upon a review and suggestion I used lunch meat and I would have to say employ the dried beef it would had been much better. The foam sauce seemed to be missing that season that comes with information technology and that may had been due to using the lunch meat instead of the dried beef. Then I would maybe effort this again but I would employ the dried beef and peradventure a tablespoon more of butter.

I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had made and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the food processor and chopped it all upwardly. I made a double batch for two teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave kickoff for 5 mins that way it doesn't scald and makes it faster to make. I also warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I also added a pinch of garlic salt because it was too bland for my taste. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast so put the meat in the sauce and it was done in 10 minutes. Very like shooting fish in a barrel and fast and the kids ate it all!!!

I oasis't made this in ages and it hit the spot tonight.I used 1/2 stick butter and approx 1/two loving cup of flour..be certain and melt that a minute or 2 to become rid of the flour gustatory modality. I so added the milk, slowly stirring and last added 2 pkgs of chipped beef that I sliced in 1/4 inch slices. Ever a family favorite.

We all enjoyed this chipped beefiness for dinner (myself, my husband, my 5 year old son and 4 yr old daughter). I rinsed the beef, but I think that I must have "over" rinsed information technology. I rinsed every single piece while running the rest of the beef under water in a collander. The event was that it really concluded upwards needing salt, IMO. This is my own fault of form. :n) the foam was bang-up, and next time I'll be less meticulous with my rinsing. Not sure if I prefer this over Stouffers, since Stouffers is obviously easier to make, which is why it got 4 instead of 5.

My mother used to brand this when I was a child for u.s. all the time since we didn't accept very much money. It'south my absolute favorite. information technology's simple, piece of cake, and brings dorsum memories. it's not a flavorful dish if you're looking for something fancy and awakening, simply if you accept the aforementioned reasoning as i practise, it's just a comfort food. I have made this recipe a couple of times and each fourth dimension it has been Keen! I like to add together some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful comfort nutrient. It is incredibly cheap, quick and easy. I would suggest buying dried beef for this and non using the lunch meat as someone suggested. I tried it the start time that I made it to relieve coin, but was disappointed past the taste. No demand to table salt a second time when using the stale beef right from the jar.

I increased the sauce as some others did and this turned out perfect! I've made this before several times, but never with the cayenne and it made a wonderful difference. I besides like to put some scramble eggs on top of mine also...just another little touch that makes it improve.

It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew upwardly with. I doubled the recipe for iv people. I used jar beef and drained it twice. Since I tuckered the beef it needed a piffling salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in black pepper instead. I serve it on toast.

This is my daughter'south all-time favorite breakfast. She eats it in one case a week. I use the Buddig make Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and cream instead of milk, just as expert, if not improve.

my mom used to make this and i had been craving it! came out perfect the 2nd fourth dimension...the first time i made a large oops! didn't wash the beef off...i didn't know to exercise information technology and information technology was pretty much inedible. 2d time around i rinsed it and information technology came out perfect! and then for anyone else that has never cooked with dry beefiness...be warned! rinse it commencement :-)

The husband could non get enough of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beefiness and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a little heat which was overnice, add more if you like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this 1 once more and over again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of dried beef chipped from the deli. We consume this when we get out for breakfast. You tin can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the most pop is toast. I liked this better than what we get out, and anybody in the house liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like the kind mom used to brand. I used a package of budding beef and chopped it upward. I had to double the recipe for my family of 4 though.

We are beef farmers and stale beef is in the freezer. This is merely about the but way we like dried beef. I was looking here for more ideas of what to make with it and found that I had already tried them all: chicken bake, creamed beefiness, and overnight casserole. Our favorite mode of eating creamed beef is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a niggling bit of nutmeg and beef broth and seasoning powder, but tonight I will try the pepper.

Good stuff, similar what mom made but due west/ an added kick. I use the beef in the plastic bag, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. Merely, I'm an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an old stand up-by recipe that I accept prepared for my family for years. I utilise two packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add merely a dash of both onion pulverization and garlic powder, along with common salt and pepper to gustatory modality before I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd requite this recipe five stars. A quick and like shooting fish in a barrel meal!

Had a deep desire for creamed chipped beefiness this evening. Being just after mid-March I besides had some leftover corned beefiness. Used it in this basic roux recipe and information technology is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Likewise my father taught me how to cook very rich so I used ane/iii heavy whipping cream to 2/3+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier gustation and texture= richer season.

I've been making this dish for years, I beginning slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into boiling h2o to remove some of the salt, then saute it in butter, add together cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season w/a flake of white pepper... that's the authentic way to brand it!
